Herby

From Hawaii to Washington to California, adjusting life in new cities has been an educating challenge and adventure for me. One of the most interesting cultural differences I've come upon in California, is the existence (and abundance of) Medical Marijuana Dispensaries. Not only is it quasi-legal to use and sell marijuana, but there are many varieties with varied effects depending on the ailments one intends on curing.

Years ago I did a hand-sewn plush of an anthropomorphic marijuana leaf for a friend of mine. Now that I crochet, I decided to redo the little bud, "Herby," as an accessory. I did two different shades of green and made two slightly different facial expressions to indicate Sativa and Indica (droopy eyes).

In no way am I trying to advocate the use of marijuana. Like any mind and/or body altering substance, you should use in moderation and be responsible.

Relaxin All Cool

That adorably apathetic face, that pleasantly chill attitude -- without doing much, Rilakkuma lazes his way into the hearts of many. The first time I saw San-X's signature bear in person, I couldn't help but gush and want to hold his hand.

Like Rilakkuma, I prefer to relax about in my own little world, that's why being commissioned to make him was a perfect fit.

To document the joy I had in creating him, I penned a story for your enjoyment : )

It was a glorious afternoon, so Rilakkuma grabbed his pail, and headed outdoors.

He came across a lovely patch of flowers, and decided to hang out with them for a while.

Satisfied with his all his new flower friends had to offer, Rilakkuma said his goodbyes...

And returned home to relax with a tasty hamburger.

Where Are My Dragons

My lovely little sister asked me to make her a cute blue dragon. The first dragon I ever made was four years ago and was mainly done to test out the variegated yarn I had:

I still think it's adorable, but it's a pretty simple design, so I was excited to create a new one that incorporated techniques I've learned over the years. I came out with a sort of pig-like dragon whose blue made him end up resembling the pokemon Horsea:

I love that there are so many styles and possibilities of dragon design. It would be cool to have a collection and be like the Daenerys Targaryen of crochet dragons. Till then, you can catch a live action video of this cutie dragon on my Leesasaur Vine account!

It'sa Me, Luigi

Although Mario is cute and compact with a vibrant voice, I've always preferred the underdog Luigi over him. Luigi is the dependable little brother, who in my opinion, got the better genes, but still has to prove himself when it comes to Mario. Well, I thought it was about time I gave some recognition to my favorite bro and bring him to crochet life:

Even though he is being called upon to rescue his brother, I think it's rad that Luigi has a solo career in ghost hunting. I decided to pay tribute to Luigi's Mansion and accompany him with a scaredy Boo!

I'm super happy with my version of Mushroom World that has been coming together throughout the years. I'm working on the other transformations of Mario, so we'll have that to look forward to : )
