Captain Caveman

If you're old enough, or watched enough cartoons like I have, you may remember a hairy fellow by the name of "Captain Caveman." He had his own series that was like a mash-up of Scooby-Doo and Charlie's Angels, as well as made appearances on The Flintstones.

When I was commissioned by Edward to crochet Captain Caveman, I knew I'd have a lot of fun with it. Since he has a ton of gestures, I knew that wiring his body was necessary to truly make the animation come to life. At first I planned to attach yarn around him and brush it out like I've done with past girl figures, but rigorously brushing out his entire body proved to do the trick. Giving him an open mouth was Edward's idea, which I think was a great addition to compliment Captain Caveman's wacky personality.

I totally gained a new appreciation for Captain Caveman after doing this commission. Once I finished the project, I couldn't help but pose him in numerous positions while exclaiming, "CAPTAAIN CAAAVEEMAAAN!"

If you're an Xbox 360 player looking for real-time game play before you make your purchase, or maybe you want to see some game glitches, Marshmelon might be able to help you with that. His YouTube is uploaded frequently with anything from Metal Gear Rising to Tin Tin game play, so there's a good chance the game you're searching for is there. You'll also find a cute mascot for his channel named "Marshmelon," that I was commissioned to make!

I'm Catbug

Last month my brother left a mysterious YouTube video for me to watch. It was the "Best of Catbug," a compilation of clips featuring a character, voiced by a six year old boy, from Pendleton Ward's web series, Bravest Warriors.

My mind just about exploded from all the cuteness this part-cat, part-ladybug, all-over adorable character had! I immediately fell in love and had to watch the series in its entirety. Although Catbug stands at equal competition with Invader Zim's Gir, I'd say he beats out cute side characters like Adventure Time's BMO, and Futurama's Nibbler. His absurdly cute phrases fueled by his energetic and sweet child-like nature is enough to melt your heart.

Episode 10: Ultra Wankershim

Episode 11: Catbug

The cartoon is a lot of silly fun, and since Catbug appeared at the end of the season, I can only imagine the serious potential for the next season!

The Dead Essential

This month, I was really grateful for the opportunity to be showcased at iam8bit's all-woman art show, "Grace & Ritual." In the sea of pop-cultural art that I am often swimming in, it was refreshing to do a piece stripped down to the raw life of being a human.

No matter how perfect of an outfit I think I have, my look can be destroyed without the right hair. Whether you're a guy or a girl, I feel that hair grooming is a ritualistic necessity. Your hair, in itself, is an outfit, and at times, can make or break you. "The Dead Essential" is a piece based on my constant battle with my hair. These dead fibers will forever be an obstacle in my life, and even more problematic when I grow old and start losing them.

Co-founder Amanda White did a beautiful job curating this show, and you should definitely check it out if you're in the Los Angeles area. All art will be on display till May 26th! If you're interested in my piece, you can adopt her through the iam8bit store : )
